Meaning

A barnehage is a kindergarten or day care. It’s the reason your Norwegian colleagues leave work so early, usually around 3 pm, so they can get there to pickup their kids.

Etymology

From barn (“child”) +‎ hage (“garden”), after German Kindergarten.
